Our “Op-Ed” on Toronto Star’s Op-Ed

On March 29, 2021, Toronto Star reporter Shree Paradkar published an article entitled ‘Random’ tax audits of Muslim charities provide cover for biased terrorism suspicions, report finds’ You can read the article here.

The premise of the article and the report is the unfairness with which Muslim charities are audited. The report Ms. Paradkar references was written by University of Toronto Professor of Law Anver Emon, also director of the Institute of Islamic studies, and  Nadia Hasan, chief operating officer of the National Council of Canadian Muslims.

The report claims unfairness with scrutiny that is given to Islamic organizations, whereas less scrutiny is given to Christian organizations with LGBTQ concerns.  They give the examples of Christ’s Forgiveness Ministries and Charles McVety and his Canada Christian College, among other organizations that opined about the LGBTQ issue.

The article goes on to imply unfairness that eight out of ten groups that posed the greatest threat to terrorist financing are Muslim or Arab including al-Qaida, Hamas, al-Shabab and Hezbollah, Khalistani Extremist Groups and another is “Remnants of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

“What’s this risk-based assessment going to do?” says Emon, one of the report authors,  “It’s going to put the focus on Muslim charities in particular.” He went on to say that this “smacked of a protestant Christian bias that manifested as state protection and state oversight.”

It appears with this statement in the report that this is a battle against the Christian community, and our Judeo/Christian tradition.

The report goes on to “call for an immediate suspension of the CRA’s Review and Analysis Division, the agency’s investigative unit of charities and terrorism funding and a review of Canada’s risk assessment model and strategy to combat extremism and radicalization.”

Several weeks ago, PEGIDA Canada published a document regarding Islamism in Canada, and several of these issues are  mentioned in the article. You can read the full article here.

In this document, we covered NCCMs accusations against Canada Christian College and Charles McVety, citing their ‘homophobic’ stance.

The statement issued by NCCM refers to CTS decision in 2020 to remove McVety’s show following controversial statements on LGBTQ that among other things portrayed the gay pride parade as a “sex parade” and suggested that the new Ontario sexual education curriculum could turn some school kids into homosexuals.

NCCM’s Mustafa Farooq himself expressed anti-LGBTQ position

Mustafa Farooq, who called McVety a “bigot” because of his anti-LGBTQ statements, opposed[2] alliances between Muslims and LGBTQ people comparing them to those who commit major sins such as adulterers, producers of alcohol and businessmen charging interest.

Mr. Farooq also expressed an offensive statement concerning Christian preachers in a Facebook post June 5, 2020 at 3:57 PM in which he stated “As a bunch of awful people showed up in Ottawa to scream about the redemption of Christ and All Lives Matter, I couldn’t help but think about the quote from brother Malcolm [X], “We didn’t land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us.”

The Toronto Star article ends with a quote from Mr Farooq where he asks:

“If we invite this Imam do we have to search everything this Imam ever said so we don’t someday lose our charitable status? Will it matter if we hold an Eid celebration a week later. What happens when we’re trying to donate to an international cause domestically but that someday might be unpopular with the government?

“There is always this spectre haunting Muslims…”

Yes, Mr. Farooq, it is your duty to know what guest imams are going to say, what they have said and what they might say. I would even venture to say that mosques are very aware of every imam they ask to speak.  I would also venture to say that Mr. Elkasrawy knew what he was praying when he called for the death of non Muslims.

And that is why the CRA has revoked charitable status from Islamic organizations. Not because they are being ‘picked’ on, but because of history, what they preach/pray, what they teach their followers.

Quran (2:244) – “Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things.”

Quran (2:216) – Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.”

Quran (3:151) – “Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority”.

Quran (8:12) – “(Remember) when your Lord inspired the angels… “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them”

Quran (8:39) – “And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder, unbelief) and religion is all for Allah”

Sahih Bukhari (52:177) – Allah’s Apostle said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.”

Sahih Bukhari (52:220) – Allah’s Apostle said… ‘I have been made victorious with terror’

Sahih Muslim (19:4294) – “Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war… When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them… If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them.”
