Canada is no stranger to welcoming imams with radical ideas across our borders. Many prominent imams, scholars and teachers started their careers in their country of origin and continue to spread their teachings here in Canada with the blessings of our government. Teachings that include killing of apostates, killing of gays, polygamist marriages, implementation of sharia, return of the caliphate, the denigration of the Jewish community, hate for Israel, just to name a few.
Canada also frequently allows foreign imams and speakers in spite of common knowledge of their anti West mindset.
Some of these individuals are exposed, and under pressure, are boycotted, but there are countless others who fly under the radar. Individuals with strong anti West sentiment, strong caliphate proponents, strong anti Jewish teachers. Many of these individuals have millions of followers on social media. Their media is filled with ominous postings, yet they are still intact.
Sheikh Ahmed Abdul Kader Kandil (أحمد عبد القادر قنديل) serves as the imam of al-Jisr Mosque in Laval, Quebec since 2007, and he is a member of Conseil des imams du Québec (Council of Imams Quebec).
Of Egyptian descent, Kandil was an imam of several mosques in Cairo and Alexandria from 1990-96 and worked for 8 years as an Imam, preacher and teacher for the Egyptian Ministry of Endowment.
“The political system of Islam is totally incompatible with western democracy.
“The concept of government party and the opposition is alien to Islam.
“All belong to one Ummah with only one goal and pursue the same aims and objects of Islamic guidelines!”
The above Imams are active in Canada, two of many with controversial views. They were born and trained outside of Canada.
Another Imam of interest is Dr Amjad Qourshah. Mr Qourshah is in Canada on an apparent sabbatical. His country of origin is Jordan. He makes Oakville Ontario his temporary home.
Jordan’s General Persecutor issued an arrest warrant against the Jordanian Islamic preacher Amjad Qourshah after his posting a video on YouTube criticizing Jordan’s participation in the international coalition, according to The Jordan Word.
In the video, Qourshah urged the people of Jordan and the Jordanian Army to rethink the war against Daesh and other militant organizations operating in Iraq and Syria.
On November 27, 2020, Mr Qourshah was a guest speaker at an event promoted by MAC Canada. This event was to raise support for Islamic Relief Canada. During the 2000s, the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) donated a total sum of $296,514 to IRFAN-Canada, an organization now known to have ties to Hamas.
Mr Qourshah has an active facebook page with over 2 million supporters. Some of his posts reflect his beliefs as well as the beliefs of his followers. The screen shot below concerns a Television series in Turkey concerning the Ottoman Empire’s conquering of the Byzantine Empire. The caption above the post reads: “They are trying to avoid this moment with everything they can, but it will come with God’s will”
The accompanying comments reflect this sentiment.
Other posts reflect his support of Hamas.
Teachers like Mr Qourshah have free reign to teach the youth in Canada, as do many other Imams. Canada also invites Imams and personalities with radical views to be regular guest speakers. Speakers like Siraj Wahaj, an imam known for his anti West, anti Israel views. An imam known for his support for jihad. Speakers like Linda Sarsour with her virulent anti Israel views.
Canada is virtually open wide to Islamic extremists.
